We begin the 5th edition of the Big Boat of Humour! This year, the
main theme of the competition is City - a powder keg. Of course, you
can always go after our famous paradox of Łódź (in Polish, the word
łódź means a boat, whereas the city of Łódź lies nowhere near any
lake, river or sea). For details, please click rules and application

The 4th edition of the Big Boat of Humour had its finale traditionally during the Łódź Days, on May 16 (exactly like the previous year). The gala was led by a popular comedian Artur Andrus. The winner received the big check for 10.000 PLN personally from Włodzimierz Tomaszewski, vice president of Łódź.

From today, for the next two weeks, you will be able to see the Big Boat of Humour's exhibition in Piotrkowska street (right in front of the City Office). The exposition includes chosen works of all the participants who took part in the competition.

This year's winner of the Big Boat of Humour is Jerzy Głuszek from Wrocław. The jury (Grzegorz Szumowski - chairman, Małgorzata Chojnacka - City of Łódź, Piotr Kasiński - Łódź Community Center and Krzysztof Kowalewicz - 'Gazeta Wyborcza') awarded his 4 works: City in Reconstruction I, City in Reconstruction II, untitled and mŁodzianie.

This year the organizers received over 200 works from all over the world. They were sent by 80 artists from 32 countries. Beside Polish artists, drawers from Turkey, Ukraine, USA, The Netherlands, China, Columbia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Serbia, Uzbekistan, Argentina, Croatia, Brazil, Macedonia, Finland, Iran, Romania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Czech Republic, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Slovakia, Cyprus, Thailand, Canada, Egypt, Luxemburg, Sweden and France fought for the main prize. This time we broke the record in the 'number of countries taking part' category.

The fourth edition of The Big Boat of Humour contest has oficially begun. This year's main theme is 'City in reconstruction'. Of course, you can also tackle the famous paradox of Łódź - the city whose name means 'a boat', but it lies nowhere near any river, lake or sea... Again, the organizers pf The Big Boat of Humour took part in a charity event prepared by Gazeta Wyborcza and Kolorowy Swiat Foundation. Special mugs were sold with the image created by Witold Mysyrowicz, a participant in this year's edition of Big Boat.

The Big Boat of Humour 2008 post-competition exhibition just ended. For the past 2 weeks one could have admired the works of all the participants in Piotrkowska Street.

The final of this year's competition took place on May 16, 2008 during the celebrations of the city of Łódź. The ceremony was conducted by a well-known comedian Andrzej Poniedzielski. Zygmunt Zaradkiewicz received the main prize in person from the hands of Włodzimierz Tomaszewski, vice-president of the city. The winner handed down his enlarged work to the city.

We already know the winner of the 2008 edition of The Big Boat of Humour contest! The jury (Jacek Fedorowicz - chairman, Kamila Szymczak - City of Łódź, Katarzyna Tośta (Łódź Cultural Center and Krzysztof Kowalewicz - Gazeta Wyborcza) decided that the main prize would go to Zbigniew Zaradkiewicz for his work "Good fishing". Congratulations!

This year we received about 250 works, sent by 95 authors from 28 countries (Poland, USA, India, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Russia, Belgium, Great Britain, Ukraine, Italy, Netherlands, France, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria, Syria, Hungary, Brazil, China, Thailand, Germany, Slovenia and Cyprus). These are record breaking numbers, taking into account previous editions.
